Homemade "Classic Sci-Fi Channel"! |
Lead | |
|
This guy hates what the cable Sci-Fi channel does, so he thought he'd do it right himself. He may even have found a way around copyright issues, by
providing links to those who should own the rights to what is streaming.

Sorry, currently our video library can only be streamed from within the United States. Hulu is committed to making its content available worldwide. To do so, we must work through a number of legal and business issues, including obtaining international streaming rights. Know that we are working to make this happen and will continue to do so. Given the international background of the Hulu team, we have both a professional and personal interest in bringing Hulu to a global audience. So no joy for me on a Hulu link, but it seems an excellent idea... |

You know, a while ago... (Had I beteter equipment, or friends who had better equipment) I thought of comming up with a
kind of ... "video zine!" where Fans talked about topics of intrest, read out teasers of original work ...news ect.. But no one ever seemed
intrested..

Well if you do it, I'm sure he'd want to link you too. For that matter, so would we!

It sounds the sort of thing that does get done these days. I guess you'd upload videos to YouTube or one of its competitors, then start a blog and imbed
them as appropriate? I'm not sure what the ideal length for such videos is on the web, I suspect people browsing around don't want to commit to
anything that goes on very long.

As I said, It was just an idea that never took off as no one paid any attension to me when I suggested it.
Years ago... (And I`m talking decades here...) Dr Who Fans uesd to make and sell audio tape" Zines." So I never understood why the idea couldn`t be put into operation.

Wow, proto-podcasts. Talk about ideas before their time. You can just imagine people finishing the recording, and thinking to themselves, "Now to upload
it to my webspace...oops, hang on a minute, the internet hasn't been invented yet..."

Hi guys!
TCSFC is my site. If anyone is interested in offering original content, or has a show/episodes I can legally display - or knows of a workaround so that those outside the US can view the HULU programming (I had a guy working on it but we were 'defeated') - or knows who I need to get in touch with to rent/license/etc., classic films/tv shows, - or has anything else they think might be of interest or in-line with the contents of that page, I'd be happy to hear, receive, display, link or whatever is appropriate. I'd ultimately like to be able to stream a movie (legally) and package it with related interviews with various SF personalities and have a chat or forum going while the movie is being played. I'll be adding this site to my blogroll and keeping my eye on you folks - this is an interesting and active site. |

Sounds good. Interesting idea. As discussed elsewhere there's quite a slew of original scifi and fantasy stuff now on YouTube in the form of webseries.
Some of them, like Barry the Demon Hunter and Damon Dark are doing quite well in terms of popularity. One of the interesting ones was The Subject, which was
inspired by The Prisoner.
As for best running times, it's true that on YouTube and the internet in general, short running times tend to go well. Damon Dark is now 10 mins or less per episode and I think Barry used 20 or so minute eps. They may have one of the early YouTube channels which permitted longer run-times. These days anything more than 10 mins, 30 secs needs to be uploaded as a two-parter. |
