But I hope I've made it clear, we're not excluding anything! We just put the M. in since he's written more SF with it there than not. We've
even been so risque as to feature a still living Kurt Vonnegut in a past Author August though he might well have sued us for insinuating he wrote science
fiction after all!

Well, I'm all aboard with anything Banks. He's one of my favorites (hell, I even put up for years with the anti-yank rhetoric that his disciple MacLeod
churns out precisely because MacLeod is his disciple and does a number of political things quite well). I'll hold off on Keirnan, as LJim
suggests, aside from two comments. The first, for purposes of anyone interested in reading them, is that its Silk and Murder of Angels I'm thinking of on
the psychology front. The second is that, despite her being Gaiman's protege, I'm actually not all that fond of her stuff - though, with me, that is
way different from a lack of respect.

Ok, guys and gals, what do we do on these folks when their day comes up? Should we have lists and links ready? Bios?

Sure, anything you've got. If they already have a thread in our Author index, you probably want to at least browse it before the day, to make sure
you're not repeating stuff that's been previously posted there (though some mild repetition doesn't really hurt either).
It's a post-a-thon, and we encourage everyone to post and discuss the given author in any way they see fit. Custer is big on posting cover scans. I usually hit Google and try to find something that we haven't linked before. Personal anecdotes as a reader are awesome. We do encourage people to research and post about the authors that are new to them as much as the old favorites though. It's a very fun month to learn all sorts of stuff! |

Yup, I've got my 31 cover scans up ready on PhotoBucket now, a mixture of old UK editions, Ace doubles, and other interesting stuff... I managed 22 out of
31 from my own shelves, and for the rest had to do a bit of web-searching, which usually ended up at Fantastic Fiction. Amazon cover scans are really lazy,
they just scan against the same white background as their pages, and don't bother to crop to size...
We will of course go after anybody who nominated an author and doesn't show up on the day in question - I knock on the front door loudly, while El Jim, machinegun cocked, gets ready to swing in through the window, feet first. It may seem harsh, but it's necessary, believe me... Anyway, post whatever seems appropriate - something you found on the web, an interview perhaps, or your own reactions to the author's work, or your comments on what the previous people have said.

So I heard...maybe you should head north, and I'll knock on El Jim's door loudly, while you prepare for the window-swinging bit...?

O.k., where was dogpoet for Chelsea Quinn Yarbro? If we can't show up to at least post about the one's we nominated...
Seriously though, everybody should try to even post about the authors we haven't read yet. A little Google research might just get you interested in a whole new writer! |
