I stumbled across this Werner Herzog movie searching the local library online for SF fare and upon finding out that Herzog had done a science fiction movie and very recently (2005), I pounced on it. Having watched it, I'm not sure what I think. More of a satire than a true "science fiction fantasy" as billed, but with some great elements in that area. He definitely brings home the point that being in space is often frustrating and a bit boring even (over long stretches) and he makes fun of conspiracy theories very effectively (while actually embracing them at the same time). I'm sure it wasn't the biggest budget ever, but it actually appears to have used a relatively large budget to get the effect of a very low budget in many places. Kind of reminds me of Alphaville by Goddard in this respect.
