A string of planets on the outer edges of the Milky Way contain the mechanical workers of an ancient alien civilization. Calvin, an exploratory rover coupled with, Nutshell, his landing ship, are sent to discover what all these machines are still doing–now that they’ve been abandoned by their alien owners. An explosion erupted behind him, and smoke filled the air. A spray of wires and robot parts whipped past overhead. The piercing screech of strong supports yielding under a heavy load resonated against the grotto walls, only to be replaced by a scraping wail. All was finally drowned in a series of crashes. He turned and bore witness, as the Solarsphere crumbled. Giant slats were sloughing off, descending into the chaos. Pieces of rock broke from the oculus and crashed down. Amongst the destruction Calvin’s cameras focused on Grak. Spinning gnashers, flailed wildly, and came directly toward the little rover. Calvin picked a dark tunnel mouth and made for it.” I've only got a Kobo Touch at the moment, and haven't actually downloaded anything yet that wasn't free, but that looks good - and a suitably professional website too! Congratulations on getting that #51 position on the sf anthology Amazon chart - just behind Jack Vance, I see... I guess it shows that taking the time and trouble to get a "proper" sf cover is something worth doing.
