A near-miss on a modern battlefield - and Holger finds himself no longer a soldier but a knight-at-arms, exiled to an eldritch realm of sorcery and magic
where a bloodsome war is gathering. The enchantress le Fay would have his sword for Chaos; the Swanmay would have him serve her gentler kind. At first he
denies them both to find out how to return to "reality" - but the chill of his knowing is like a cold wind through his ribs. For it was Earth that
was his exile: It is here, in the lowering dragon-smoke, that he must fight and die....

The Quiet Man
Three Heart and Three Lions has always been one of my favorite books. It's interesting to note that another of Anderson's
early books, The Broken Sword, is also a fantasy, set in Viking times and featuring Elves, Trolls, and even a guest appearance by Odin,
I sometimes think Anderson would have preferred to write high fantasy to SF, but there wasn't a market for it in the early 50s. It
wasn't until Tolkien was republished in the US in the late 1960s that you began to see original fantasy stories being published and Anderson wrote some
more of them. Now it seems like fantasy is drowning out the SF.
